George attended New Mexico Military Institute where he played football. During the Spring of his second year, about1966, at NMMI the football team had a swimming outing at a river or lake. The team had gone to this place in previous years. George dove in at a place where it had always been safe to dive. Unfortunately, the bottom had reconfigured over the winter. George struck the bottom or an obstruction and died of a head or neck injury.
