I have only good memories of Bill.  We were good friends at Highland and at UNM.  He was great fun to be around, but we only managed to keep in touch intermittently after the 60s.  However, one “adventure” from back in the day sticks in my mind.  Several of us decided to go snowshoeing on the eastside of Sandia Crest one winter afternoon.  Bill drove an old clunker of a car which got us there just fine, but when we were set to return he couldn’t get the engine to turn over.  Sunset was only a few minutes off and it was getting colder.  So we hustled down to the nearest blacktop road and tried to hitch a ride.  Finally a father with three kids in his car stopped, squeezed the four of us in, and gave us all a ride back to town.  Occasionally when Bill and I saw each other after that we’d laugh and muse about what would have happened if that one good Samaritan with kids hadn’t stopped to give us a lift.  When I think of Bill I won’t forget that day but, more to the point, I’ll always remember his infectious smile and upbeat attitude toward life.   Bob McAulay

Bill Camp was a good man.  I remember him at HHS slogging through the jammed hallways and rooting for the Hornets at many a Friday night at Wilson Stadium -  and then as a legislator in Santa Fe.  Imagine my surprise when I recognized him in the Round House - years and years after high school.  He looked the same - was as personable and good natured as ever.  Rest in peace, Bill.
