I still think fondly about all the wonderful people in our class at Highland, many of whom attended UNM with me as well. After a 7 year "starter marriage", Linda Bobier and I have been married for 28 years. Neither of us have ever had kids which I think meant I got to be the kid in our family and keep having fun my whole life. We've had several dogs through the years who have been a very important part of our lives. I lived in Albuquerque most of my life and still have my closest friends there. In addition to a career in financial and high tech management, I founded and owned the Soup'r Salad restaurant in downtown Albq for 4 years in the early '80s. In the late '80s, I was a NM State Representative for two terms. As I look back on my career (lots of time for reflection now), being a legislator was the most challenging and gratifying job I've had. In 2001, I took a position managing a medical research institute in the Phoenix area. I retired 3 years ago from Banner Health, a 24 hospital healthcare system where I was CEO of the medical research operations of 2 research institutes, a cancer center joint venture with MD Anderson, and the surgical research in the hospitals. Hard to believe for someone who would faint in Highland's health class whenever breast surgery or the effects of STD's were described in graphic detail. Linda and I live in Scottsdale and take as many trips to exotic lands as we can. Here's an update on my profile.

NEW INFO:About 9 years ago I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis which destroys lung tissue over time until there's none left with which to breath. There was no treatment or cure but fortunately I got into a clinical trial for a drug that slowed the decline. In 2016 I had deteriorated to the point that only a double lung transplant would save me. So of course I got on the list and had the transplant. It has been a bumpy ride. The drugs the doctors give me intentionally destroy my immune system. This, in turn, has made my body susceptible to several serious illnesses (of course including a serious case of Covid-19). On the other hand, I'm still alive 4.5 years after the transplant. So all is good.
Linda and I are still married after 35 years. She's an exercise freak which matches well with my couch potato persona. I play a lot of online bridge. With covid, online bridge is about the only safe activity we have. I hope you are all staying healthy. If you come to Scottsdale after the vaccine has protected us, give me a call or come by!

I remember Richard as a nice guy at Highland, but unfortunately never kept up with him after we graduated.  In just reading about his interests, as well as his outstanding education and career achievements, I am honored to have known him.  The world will miss such an accomplished person.

Gene was a loyal friend to all of us that he knew.  I had many good times with Gene and could always count on his advice and level-headedness.  Blessings to his family.

Hi Stephanie. It's a nice surprise to see that you commented on this site. How are you and Greg doing? I moved to Scottsdale about 18 years ago and so never bump into old friend like Greg and you. Tell me what's going on in your lives.

Kevin -
I like your comment about Cissy King. I knew her because a good friend of mine, Greg With, dated her. Cissy was always so nice to everyone. (Cissy, I'm ssure you are just as nice and pretty today!) In the 70's,I did watch the Lawrence Welk Show just to see her. As I recall, another pair were the featured dancers but then that woman left and Cissy replaced her in the featured pair. One of our class stars!

Happy Birthday Gene! You were always such a gentleman and great friend in high school; it's no wonder you became a military leader. Thanks for your friendship in high school and your military service.

Happy belated birthday Suzie! Didn't I bump into you in New York many years ago when you were a flight attendant and I was on a weekend pass from army basic training?
