My favorite memories of Mike are when he and Cissy danced together at our assemblies.
Also remember going on a date with Mike and we stopped by his house for something. While I was waiting for him, I saw my first color TV program - Bonanza - The grass was a funny shade of green but it was COLOR! Awesome!
What fun we had in the Alb. Light Opera performing "West Side Story". Mike was the lead for the sharks. I was a dancer for the sharks...great memories. We dated for awhile after that. Do you remember his cute black Ford truck.
My brother Jerry Markland was killed in Viet Nam in 1968. Late one night Mike called to give his sympathy. I really did appreciate that call.
Mike was always a gentleman and I had such fun dancing with him, whether it was at our ballroom classes, doing something fun for a program or at a dance... I will never forget an assembly performance in our gym. We were dancing to Percy Faith's "Granada". All of a sudden I could feel the zipper on my dress splitting... and splitting, until I knew I would be totally exposed... I just whispered to Mike that I had to run off and fix it. He was so great. He took it in stride and the audience roared when he announced that they almost got more than their money's worth. I miss his handsome face, his style and his sense of humor.
Mike was a demonstrator in the various ballroom dance classes I took from Mike Haley many moons ago. He made it fun and easy when he danced with us, and I've loved to dance ever since! He was gone much too soon!
