Marilyn Hildner Leckman, 54, a resident of Albuquerque passed away at home Thursday, June 8, 2000, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Marilyn was born in Wooster, OH, but moved to Albuquerque as a girl of one and considered New Mexico her home. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Lane Leckman; two sons, Phil of Tucson, AZ and Dan of Eugene, OR, Richard Hildner and wife, Sandra and their four children, Tamara, Chuck, Ron and Jim; brother-in-law, Jim Leckman and wife, Hannah and their two children, Emily and Peter, sister-in-law, Helene Santos and husband, Lucinio and children, Anna and Andrew; father-in-law, Fred Leckman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Richard Charles Hildner and Marjorie Perrill Hildner, and mother-in-law, Bea Leckman. A student at Bandelier Elementary, Wilson Junior High and Highland High School and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of New Mexico. Marilyn taught special education at Roosevelt A. Montoya Middle School and English at Eldorado High School in early 1970's. She was an active member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Albuquerque and was also a Sunday School teacher. Marilyn was a scouting leader, professional storyteller, and an active participant in many of her children's activities. She possessed an active and creative mind and took great joy in expressing these talents through art. Marilyn ran a successful weaving business for several years and then had become a professional artist. At the time her illness was diagnosed, she was represented in several galleries in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Marilyn loved the stunning vistas and brilliant colors of New Mexico, and her artist's eye and deep reverence for the land combined in her vivid and evocative paintings. She continued to develop her abilities for as long as her illness permitted. Marilyn loved art, good food, good company, travel, music, and above all the beauty of nature. Her many friends will miss her smile, grace and laughter. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2000, 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Friends of the Bosque del Apache, P.O. Box 340, San Antonio, NM 87832 or to Planned Parenthood of New Mexico, 719 San Mateo Blvd. NE, 87108. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Hematology Oncology Associates for their love and care. We also wish to thank the innumerable friends and family who helped make the last three and a half years a celebration of life. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Sharon,

Thank you so much for posting this beautiful article about Marilyn. She was such a terrific young lady as I knew her at HHS, outstanding in so many ways, one being showing her wamth towards everyone she was around.  Certainly she lived a fully expressive and fulfilled life surrounded by her wonderful family, career and artistic hobbies.

We would love to present Lane and Marilyn's family our Gift of Rememberance from the Class of 1964, the "Golden Hornet" keepsake.

Cissy

Thank you, Sharon for finding and knowing how to get Marilyn's obituary.  Would have been wonderful to have her with us to join in the memories, but the memories are there.

Thank you, Sharon, for posting that beautiful obituary for Marilyn.  I have so many wonderful memories of Marilyn when we were young.  We were good friends since first grade, went to the same church, and our mothers were best friends.  Unfortunately for me we lost touch as adults and her passing was way too early and very sad.
